Case Study of App Redesign
Focusing on a complete overhaul of the current interface, we improved the user installation process without sacrificing the same exceptional security.

Problem
Frontpoint's mission is to provide safer, smarter, and simpler home security. With the rapid rise of more smart technology, their current app was in need of a refresh.
The goal of this project was to simplify the existing features into one dashboard, allowing for a quick view of every linked smart device.
OBJECTIVES
- Research and observe user behaviors with the current app.

- Develop a dashboard that allows users to access all their connected smart features without having to click on individual, separate devices.

- Design the features to be accessible, intuitive, and natural to the user's need and patterns.
GOAL
How might we aid Frontpoint users to maintain full control of their home automation system through an organized dashboard, optimized feature navigation, and access to automated features through the mobile app?

A one stop control board for all devices the user wants to show. Activated smart devices can be pinned here or dragged and rearranged into place, allowing users full customization of their home.
- Simplified New Device Setup
A way to help new and existing users add and remove devices to their home network, eliminating repetition and unnecessary extra steps.
- Easy Additional User Activation
Allow the primary user to add members to their home network, customizing their access and control over the system and allowing for single use sign-ins.

We needed to ensure everything was intuitive to find while adding high contrast to all actions, allowing for accessibility as we transitioned to the look of the new brand.

- To ensure the highest quality of navigation, accessibility, and flow for our users.
Results
We had a 100% success rate with setting up a device and navigating to the home page. Users had an 80% success rate with activating the alarm and modifying the thermostat.
General comments were very positive, noting it was overall aesthetically clear and easy to explore.

NEXT STEPS AND PROTOTYPE
- Add in colors and implement style guide brand standards
- Finalize Thermostat home screen card
- Add a "Schedule" status indicator
- Add a thermometer with color indicator
- Bell icon should be added for notifications
- Font colors need to be addressed for universal legibility

Our updated prototype shows our user easily navigating through the new application, factoring in all the revisions.
